Description
South Africa’s oldest wine estate, Groot Constantia is housed on a natural heritage site that forms the ideal setting for enjoying a glass of wine over an unforgettable meal. Groot Constantia boasts two quality restaurants to choose from, both with their own ambiance and cuisine. Simon’s Restaurant is perfect for casual al fresco dining, featuring mouth-watering fish and chips and burgers. Both restaurants offer cosy indoor seating.
History
Walking up the tree-lined avenue of Groot Constantia to the Jonkershuis Restaurant transports visitors into history. The restaurant lies next to the historic Manor House and reflects the rich Cape Malay heritage of the city. A little further along, Simon’s Restaurant is tucked further into the estate amongst the vineyards. The menu contains classic Cape favourites, with the inclusion of some modern culinary dishes for the adventurous diner.

Groot Constantia
Advice for visitors
At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with a meal at either of the restaurants at Groot Constantia. Jonkershuis has a warm, cosy and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for an intimate dinner with the family. It suits inside and outside diners, but the best option is on a winter’s day, nestled inside by the Jonkershuis fire with a warming Cape Malay meal and glass of wine. Summer mornings were made for Groot Constantia, and there is so much to keep the family busy. On these days, Simon’s is the best bet, offering quick, friendly and efficient service. Though famous for great wine, Simon’s also has a wide selection of craft beer available.
Did you know
Groot Constantia Wine Estate is a heritage site and fully functioning wine farm. The estate was founded by Simon van der Stel in 1685 with the intention of improving the quality of wine in the Cape. After his death in 1714, the estate was divided into three separate farms and auctioned off. The larger portion including the cellars and the main house is what we know as Groot Constantia today, and the two smaller sections of the farm became the well-known wineries of Bergvliet and Klein Constantia.
