Good food and wine are always a winning combination, and it’s exactly what you can expect at Stellenbosch Vineyards on the historic Welmoed Wine Farm just outside of the picturesque town of Stellenbosch.

Boasting a modern tasting room and a unique food and wine experience called Swirl, Stellenbosch Vineyards is a great spot for those that appreciate good food and wine. Swirl specialises in a unique taste adventure of perfectly paired culinary creations like Cape Malay bobotie spring rolls or herb crusted lamb rack.

The tasting room offers the full wine range, laid out perfectly for visits all year round. It also has a toasty fireplace for winter, and has a patio and grass area for enjoying balmy summer afternoons.

History

Established in 2004 with the merging of Stellenbosch Vineyards and Vinfruco, Welmoed Estate is one of the oldest proclaimed farms in the Stellenbosch district. Originally granted to Governor Simon van der Stel in 1690, the farm was subsequently owned by Jacobus van der Heyden, who rebelled against the cruel Dutch governor’s rule. Over the years the farm has produced many great wines and continues to maintain its proud wine making tradition today.

This is a fantastic venue for parents with small kids. The young ones can tire themselves out in the enclosed, covered, play area while adults enjoy peace of mind at lunch in the gardens or wine tasting in the tasting room. The kitchen opens from 11:00, so come hungry and couple your wine tasting with wholesome food and delicious treats. Try the burger topped with tomato chilli jam – it is highly recommended!
