The Brew Food area brings a fusion of food and beer. Created with Piet Marais, winner of Ultimate Braai Master, the menu combines smoking techniques, pickling, fermenting and of course, beer.

History

The concept of a beer bar came about rather spontaneously when owner Randolf Jorberg and his girlfriend, Varnia, were sitting in a beer bar in Germany discussing the available beers and their stories. The thought,
“Why doesn’t this exist in Cape Town?” sprang to their minds. They introduced the idea to a few friends and family members who saw the potential. After conducting market research and realising the gap in the South African market, Beerhouse on Long opened its doors in April 2013. Situated in the middle of town, on bustling Long Street, Beerhouse provides guests with a year-round beer festival experience and functions as the tasting room for the South African craft beer industry.

Advice for visitors

If your experience with beer is somewhat limited and Beerhouse’s long list of options overwhelms you, don’t fret! The menu is classified in different categories and colour coded to make it easier to choose a drink that will suit your pallet. Plus, there is always the option of ordering a “taste tray”. The Brew Food Revolution combines the best of both worlds: a crispy cold one coupled with a selection of delicious beer-flavoured foods. Try the smoked brisket, chicken wings, ribs and pulled pork, or order some beer-inspired nachos to share. If you are keen to sample a variety of their top dishes, bring along some friends and go for the Brew-BQ platter for four. It’s a smoky treat! Beerhouse on Long is also famous for its nightlife entertainment. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for news on the many events such as stand-up comedy, Karaoke Mondays, quiz nights, and Silent Discos to name a few.
